Introduction

Welcome to healthequityresearch.ca.  We are a group of researchers who are committed to fostering a just and compassionate society through ethical, inclusive research and policy. Centered on values like social justice and community engagement, our work aims to eliminate avoidable health disparities. Our research spans migration, social identities, and structural determinants affecting health. Learn more about our impactful approaches and core principles. We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Information Collection and Use

  • Limited Personal Information: We collect minimal personal information from our visitors for website functionality and improvement, such as IP addresses and browser types.
  • Researcher Information: We list researchers and their work on our site. This information is obtained and displayed with their consent and is primarily professional in nature (e.g., research topics, publication titles).
  • Cookies. If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
  • When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
  • If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

  • By using our site, and especially when submitting your details as a researcher, you consent to the collection, display, and use of your information as described in this policy.

Third-Party Links and Collaborations

  • External Sites: We provide links to third-party sites, including those of featured researchers. Our privacy policy does not cover these external sites.
  • Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
  • Collaborative Work: When we highlight a researcher’s work, we ensure it aligns with their own privacy and disclosure standards.

Data Sharing

  • We automatically gather some anonymous information about your visit, including IP addresses, browser type, language, and the times and dates of webpage visits.  The data does not include personally identifiable information and is used for statistical analysis, to understand user behaviour, and to administer the site.
  • No Selling of Personal Data: We do not sell personal information collected from our visitors or featured researchers.
  • Controlled Sharing: Information about researchers is shared on our platform with their explicit consent.

Google Analytics

  • Our website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). The information generated by the cookie about your use of our website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States.
  • Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of our website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage. Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf.
